Consul General of the San Francisco Israeli Consulate David Akov defends Israel's controversial security barrier along its border with Palestine's West Bank.

Consul General Akov discusses the relations between America and Israel on the 60th anniversary of the formation of the state of Israel. He began his tour of duty at the Israeli Consulate in San Francisco in August 2004.

A native of Israel, Akov joined the Israeli Foreign Ministry in 1985 and was counselor for congressional affairs at the Embassy of Israel in Washington, D.C., for five years - The Commonwealth Club of California

Consul General Akov, began his tour of duty at the Israeli Consulate in San Francisco in August 2004, and joined the Israeli Foreign Ministry in 1985. Prior to his appointment as Consul General, David served as Director of Congressional Affairs at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem between 2000 and 2004. In this capacity he advised both the Foreign Minister’s bureau and the Prime Minister’s bureau on Congressional issues relating to Israel and coordinated Congressional visits to Israel.

David also served as Counsellor for Congressional Affairs at the Embassy of Israel in Washington D.C. (1995-2000), Director of the Israeli Foreign Ministry's diplomatic training program (1993-1995) and Consul at the Israeli Consulate in Atlanta, GA (1989-1993).

A native Israeli, Consul General Akov served in the Israel Defense Forces following high school. He then went on to earn a B.A. in Middle East History and an M.A. in Political Science and Political Thought, both from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
