JOHN MCCAIN: "I would emphasize completely choice and competition in education. Choice and competition. Choice and competition . . . I'm for vouchers, I'm for chartered schools, I'm for rewarding good teachers and finding bad teachers another line of work, I think that, in my home state of Arizona, my friends, we have had a dramatic increase in chartered schools, some have failed, some have failed, but it provided competition for the public schools, and the public schools have gotten better. If you want to home school your child I'm for it. If you want to have a voucher and take your child to a school of your choice I'm for that too. And by the way, on the issue of No Child Left Behind, it's full of faults and it needs to be fixed. But to scrap it - we go back to where we were before. And I don't think where we were before No Child Left Behind is where we want to be . . ."
