QUESTIONER: "First of all . . . the question was mentioned about you voting no on the Bush tax cuts. I really did not hear an answer . . ."

JOHN MCCAIN: ". . . in the 1980s I was a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution and we cut taxes . . . all of those people that were the leaders there knew we had to cut spending and if you cut taxes and you don't cut spending you end up in the situation we're in today. I had a proposal to cut taxes and it was a good one but I also had a proposal to cut spending . . . we are running un-funded liabilities onto next generations of Americans up in the trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars . . . now those tax cuts have to be made permanent now because otherwise Americans would experience a tax increase . . ."
