QUESTIONER: As a Vietnam veteran, I'd like to, you've always been a hero of mine, you and fighter pilots and special forces were always my heroes while I was in service. But anyway I've got to ask you a tough question. I live two miles down the road; we have thousands of illegal aliens. The Heritage Foundation just released a report that if your plan of amnesty is implemented, and I hate to say this but according to, you and Ted Kennedy have the worst, according to US today numbers, record on amnesty. If its implemented it will cost the United States government over a trillion dollars in the next five years. Because the average illegal alien has no high school education, and once they become citizens they will require over $20,000 a year in some kind of subsidy from the US government.

JOHN MCCAIN: Well let me just say to you sir, I have never supported Amnesty and never will and never have, and anyone that says that I have does not know that. [...] The President of the United States and I and many others, especially those of us from border-states, saw that we had a terrific problem with National Security. I'm not going to repeat myself because I'm not going to waste these people's time. I'm telling you I will secure the borders first, I will secure the borders first. And when we have a temporary worker tamper proof document many people will leave voluntarily. I will round up the 2 million people who are here illegally that have committed crimes and there will be no Amnesty. [...]
