QUESTIONER: "If you are elected, Senator McCain, will you make English the official language in the United States?"

JOHN MCCAIN "English should be the language that every person who lives in this country should use. There is no way you get off the bottom rung of the economic ladder unless you know English. I mean it's just a historical fact.

"It was the case with the Irish, the Italians, the Jews, the Poles, Hispanic, etc... And I would do everything in my power to make sure that people learn English and use English and English is the language of this country."
